DBT Case Conference:
Clinical Expansion After DBT Intensive Training
The DBT Case Conference is a structured consultation meeting established following Part 2 of 1st DBT Intensive Training. It is designed for clinicians who are actively implementing DBT in their clinical settings and who gather regularly to share clinical experiences and support one another.
Beyond simple case presentation, the purpose of the Case Conference is to cultivate an ongoing consultation structure in which DBT clinicians can continue working together as a team. The focus is on strengthening the consultation team model that is central to sustainable DBT implementation.
The Case Conference is held quarterly and begins with a Mindfulness practice to reconnect with the core principles of DBT. Each session centers on case presentations from participating teams, with discussion focused on treatment targets, intervention processes, and—most importantly—the type of consultation and support most needed by the presenting team at that time.
Rather than offering immediate solutions, the group engages through thoughtful questions and observations to fully understand the clinical challenges faced by the presenting team. Strategies and support are then explored collaboratively, grounded in DBT principles. Over time, the Case Conference has increasingly fostered a validating and psychologically safe atmosphere. Participating clinicians share responsibility and mutual support as members of an evolving DBT consultation team.
