The DBT Center of Korea invited Dr. Marsha Linehan who is one of the most influential authorities in the field of psychology and psychological treatment. Hundreds of professionals or students in areas such as psychology, medicine, social services, and nursing gathered at the Coex Center in Seoul to participate in her DBT workshop. The event was held for three consecutive days from October 2nd to October 4th, 2008.
Dr. Marsha Linehan made vigorous attempts to develop a treatment for those with borderline personality disorder and showed chronic suicidal crisis.
It was during the early 1990s when she started to find empirical evidence that Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) decreases symptoms of borderline personality disorder. DBT is one of the few psychological treatments that have been proved to be effective by numerous research. Such empirical evidence is thoroughly studied and confirmed in hundreds of her journals published in SCI.
The core of Dr. Marsha Linehan’s effort in developing an evidence-based treatment is her care and compassion for people and those with personality disorders. This workshop was a great opportunity for many to see her devotion, sacrifice, and compassion in developing an evidence-based treatment to reduce symptoms of unbearable emotional pain in borderline personality disorder, understand how DBT enhances quality of lives for many, and acknowledge why DBT has been praised for years by professionals all over the world.
The workshop was a specially designed event to have Dr. Marsha Linehan lecture for three days and ask questions on the spot. To have her directly provide training on DBT is very rare considering her reputation and tight schedule and all the Tree Group staff and participants of the workshop showed high satisfaction and were able to wrap up the event in a successful manner.
