DBT treatment to overcome psychological pain and suffering.
The professional DBT treatment and training system, built on international standards and scientific rigor.
Our expertise is grounded in collaboration with Dr. Marsha Linehan’s team and enriched through strong international networks.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a scientifically grounded, practice-based treatment that has transformed lives worldwide for decades. DBT KOREA is dedicated to introducing and expanding DBT in Korean society so that individuals, families, and communities facing psychological suffering may live healthier, more meaningful lives. We value the clinical science and proven effectiveness of DBT, and we work to advance education, research, and clinical practice in ways that are responsive to the cultural and linguistic context of Korea.
Our mission is to support clinicians, researchers, and partner institutions in deepening their understanding of DBT and applying it effectively in their work. To achieve this, we provide specialized education and training, share the latest research and clinical applications, and collaborate with international networks to bring world-class DBT knowledge and expertise to Korea.
The history of DBT KOREA began in close collaboration with the global DBT community. A pivotal moment occurred when Dr. Marsha Linehan, founder of DBT, visited Korea at the invitation of our founding director, Dr. Yong Cho, to provide training and consultation. This visit marked a turning point in the dissemination and development of DBT in Korea. Since then, ongoing partnerships with international experts, along with sustained training and education of Korean clinicians, have enabled DBT to take root and expand steadily within Korean society. This history reflects more than the adoption of a treatment model; it represents the building of a foundation that connects Korea’s clinical and academic communities to the global DBT network.
Ultimately, DBT KOREA seeks to bring meaningful change to individual lives and to society as a whole. Our commitment extends beyond clinical practice to education, healthcare, law, and social services—ensuring that DBT can be applied effectively across diverse systems. In doing so, we carry forward Dr. Linehan’s core vision: reducing the burden of human suffering and helping people build lives worth living.

DBT Center of Korea’s Professional Ethics and Philosophy
Respect for People’s Rights and Dignity
We provide professional treatment to enhance the quality of life of those with chronic emotional and behavioral difficulties. In psychotherapy, a clinician must respect the rights and dignity of the clients with whom they work, while the clients learn the new approaches to overcoming their current struggles with the clinician to achieve their goals in life.
Professional Ethics
We, as professionals who have had intense education and training in psychology or other related fields, strictly follow the professional ethics and standards to be able to provide more effective treatment to and empathize with our clients.
Evidence-based Research and Treatment
Our clinical team makes consistent effort to provide treatment services based on the most current and accurate evidence-based research as we understand doing so is crucial in psychotherapy. Research-based treatments that are introduced in international journals and proven to reduce emotional and behavioral distress are then implemented in clinical settings.
